The great grandma and sari told me today that the Little One has been learning how to yakk on the phone :) Perhaps its because my grandma does chat on the phone with my aunties and uncles quite a bit, so he might be imitating! Since our cordless phone is placed on a low counter next to the TV, the little one has been helping himself to the phone, picking it up, pressing all sorts of buttons and yes, talking (or rather blabbing) away.
The two adults decided to hide the phone away, somewhere unreachable so that he would not see it. Guess what he does?
Press the "bell" on the phone cradle set.. it makes the phone beep away.. louder and louder.. and he goes searching for it! :) i guess the hiding tactic didnt quite work after all!

Some new words
Noticed that The Little One is pronouncing some new words today:
1. Book -a bit more like "bbbbk"
2. Shoe - "sssho"
3. Bear - "bah"
Sari told me that while he was watching some Chinese gongfu drama serial this afternoon, with my grandma, the Little One was imitating the characters fight scene.. He was making all the "ggrrrr" noises and shaking his hands and legs and turning round and round! See, he is truly a Chinese Ah Pek in the making.. tsk tsk
My grandma is here to stay with us for the next two weeks :) the Little One has some company! and oh yes, Sari's friend, Amy came over to help give him a hair cut. Now he looks much more boyish.

Fire Station @ Hill Street
Was told by a friend that the SCDF fire stations conduct a free open house every saturday from 9-12noon. Thought that it would be an interesting place for the Little One to visit and of course, the fact that its free, was a big plus point for us! Already running out of places to bring the Little One to these days.. so off to a fire station we went! The Big one thought that if we were going to visit one, why not the one on Hill Street, which coincidentally was celebrating its 100 years birthday this year. So here's a funny picture of the both of them, doing the "STOP" sign.. cos we must give way to the fire engines. LOL
The fire station had all these fire engines that the members of the public could try ou. The Little and Big One tried their hand at driving one of these :) Its really high so daddy had to get into the seat first, before i lifted the Little One to him. Clearly, the Little One was having a lot of fun just trying to move the steering wheel around... vvrrroooommmmm...
They also laid out all sorts of equipment for us to touch.. like this safety hat that had a very cool visor.. doesn't it make him look a bit like Darth Vader? I tried it on too.. but it got kindof stuck. Maybe my head is too big??
Then we went over to the Ambulances.. again, the Little One was crazy about the wheel and kept trying to move it and move the gear stick too! and even pressed the horn. There was a photography club at the station also trying to take some pictures. According to the Big One, there was a lady who was trying to take candid shots of the Little One. So, we decided to let him give all that he had in him! Go movie star!
It resulted in this rather strange looking shot of him :) ok lah, at least it shows that he was in a real ambulance!
There were other activities like trying to put out the small fire with the fire extinguisher, and trying the water hose. Even getting a ride on the fireman's ladder. but i think the LIttle one was a bit too young for these activities so we went to the museum for a look see and... here's a picture of him trying on the fireman's hat :) small size just for kids! He still doesn't like having stuff on his head so errr.. it was kindof tough to get this shot.
After about 1.5 hours, the Little One's tummy was protesting so we had to leave. Not forgetting to take a picture with the friend firemen who were the most gracious host to us :) We will be back again!

Chinese Ah Peh?
Could the Little One be a Chinese Ah Peh in the making?
Caught him watching the Channel 8 repeat telecast of Huang Jing Nian Hwa in the morning where seniors compete in a oldies song contest. He was hooked onto it man! refuse to leave the living room to take his breakfast. So here's a video of him watching the programme, with the Big One providing some light hearted entertainment... listen closely and you can hear the oldies song

All about the clock and car
The Little One has started to say "clock" and "car" correctly!
Whenever he sees a car, especially a red one, he goes "CAR".. everything that has wheels is a car, including pictures of trains and trucks. That's how they associate and learn, i guess.
He has been able to say "clock" for sometime now, but what really suprised me this weekend happened when we were watching the Mickey Mouse Playhouse cartoon on tv and they were using a scale, something round with numbers on it.. and the Little One leaped from his seat and ran to the clock on the wall and said "clock". At first, i tot that he was just saying clock then the Big One pointed out that he must have associated the scale on tv and thought that it was a picture of a clock. Wow.. that i thought was quite smart of the Little One :)
This weekend, we brought him to many places.. Geylang Serai for one! to see the light up for Hari Raya and to shop around the pasar malam stores. We also had nasi padang for 2 nights in a row.. greedy! And the Little One went to his first bar.. One Twenty-Six at East Coast Playground! He was busying himself with all the low tables and coasters.. hmm, maybe a career has a bartender in future?

First Day in September
This month, he will be turning 17 months old! Was remembering how i had plans to stay at home till he was 18 months old, putting the corporate job on hiatus. Guess things have changed quite a bit! We are blessed to have aunty sari who cares for him full time while we are both at work.. Original plan was to start having him attend childcare when he turns 18 months but that too, has been put on the backburner. After much thought, we decided that we will only start him in school next year.. anyways, the nov and dec months are like school holidays for the kids, so no point starting him then.
Someone was reminding me today that its only like another 1/2 more year, before the Little One turns 2.. wow.. just not long ago, we were celebrating his 1st birthday. For the 2nd one, definately no big parties. The Big One and I were deciding if we should bring the kid on holiday, and celebrate his birthday overseas. Anyway, we need to move fast cos after they turn 2, they become full paying passengers for airfare. Hmm.. with all the Natas holiday deals, a overseas holiday does seem like the logical choice.
Anyways, that's just the thoughts.. today, the Little One surprised me by flipping to a page on his book that showed a birthday celebration.. and he was clapping his hands! Guess he does recognize what is going on in the picture :) How cute! Noticed also that he is starting to get better during self feeding and loves feeding himself bite sized portions. Last Sunday in fact, we decided to try out if he could sit through a meal, with us feeding him part of his dinner and the rest for him to self feed. And he did very well! Fed himself tofu and pieces of salmon fish and even had watermelon :) compared to just a few months ago, when the Big One and I have to take turns to eat dinner, this was a clear change! Now we just have to give him enough variety of food and he would be happily sitting next to us eating. :)grins
